Propane Projects
Small or large, storage, commercial/industrial, process or jurisdictional facilities, ECUC has the capabilities to complete your propane project. Below are recent notable projects designed and completed by ECUC’s Propane Construction group.
PROPANE STORAGE
OWNER: Ameri-Gas
ENGINEER: RGS Associates
PROJECT VALUE: $91,570
SCOPE OF SERVICES: Installed the following Customer-supplied equipment:
- Installation of new underground 30K GWC industrial propane storage tank
- Fisher 99 Monitor regulators
Supplied and installed the following:
- All new tank trim including pneumatically operated internal valves as per NFPA 58 2011 ESV compliance cathodic protection system for underground tank
- All related LP Gas piping to complete installation
PROJECT NOTES:
- Assisted customer in obtaining PA State Department of Labor approvals.
- Coordination of excavation, tank delivery, crane and backfill with several contractors.
- Layout installation in tight space.
PROPANE PLANT
OWNER: Backyard Farms
PROJECT VALUE: $354,960
SCOPE OF SERVICES: Installed three 30,000 gallon propane storage tanks, two 1,050 gallon per hour propane vaporizers, six underground P.E. piping to building, 4” and 6” inside steel piping manifolds to two high tech boilers from Holland.
PROJECT NOTES: Uninterrupted heat source during winter months was a primary concern for produce to survive and not be lost. ECUC incorporated 100% backup vaporizer systems and additionally used the direct supply naturally produced by the three storage tanks. Project timing was also critical with the fast approaching winter and tomato plants already scheduled for delivery. ECUC worked with customer to meet all scheduling requirements.
PROPANE PROJECT
OWNER: Hydro Aluminum of No. America
ENGINEER: RH White
PROJECT VALUE: $400,000
SCOPE OF SERVICES: Design/Build Project consisted of installing (2) 1500 gph water bath vaporizers, (2) new 30,000 gwc propane storage tanks and a new pump and piping. Install a new propane cylinder fill shed/building with automatic cylinder filling scale and cylinder storage cage for existing fork lift cylinder operations.
PROJECT NOTES:
- Vaporizer control system uses radio transmitters and receivers allowing the new vaporizers to be controlled from inside the plant over 100’ away.
- Plant will supply approximately 28,500 gallons of propane per day.
PROPANE SYSTEM
OWNER: Lauth Construction
PROJECT VALUE: $204,975
SCOPE OF SERVICES: Supply/install following components:
- 30k GWC propane tank on precast concrete piers.
- New alternate energy Model #WB250 Waterbath Vaporizer.
- Approximately 250’ of 3” PE plastic vapor service piping.
- Two Fisher 99 Monitor Regulator Systems.
- Two Rockwell 5000 Vapor Meter.
- All new tank trim including pneumatically operated internal valves as per NFPA 58 2011 ESV compliance.
PROJECT NOTES:
- LP Gas system installed to provide gas service to warehouse building for heat and hot water.
- Project required prints/approval from the PA Department of Labor. Their inspector commented that “this was the best installation he has seen.”
PROPANE PROJECT
OWNER: Okemo Mountain Resort
PROJECT VALUE: $314,800
SCOPE OF SERVICES:
- All underground– 2,600’ U/G P.E. mains and branch lines.
- Two 30,000 gallon underground propane storage tanks.
- Two large capacity waterbath vaporizers.
- Included additional underground piping to meet full build out needs.
PROJECT NOTES:Challenge was to keep gas flowing and operational to all buildings while additional underground piping was being installed. This meant calculating current demands and providing the current system with adequate volume and pressure adjustments to keep gas flowing.
PROPANE PROJECT
OWNER: Spruce Peak Ski Resort
PROJECT VALUE: $493,732
SCOPE OF SERVICES:
2005
- Two Underground 30,000 GWC storage tanks.
- One 1,000 gph vaporizer.
- 200’ – 6” underground PE piping.
2008
- Additional vaporizer.
- Filtration system.
- 1,000’ underground PE piping.
PROJECT NOTES:
- Terrain was a challenge installing both tank and all underground P.E. piping.
- RH White was contracted for the initial installation in 2005 and then again for the expansion project in 2008.
PROPANE PROJECT
OWNER: Zilkha Biomass Energy
PROJECT VALUE: $71,825
SCOPE OF SERVICES: Install two new 1,000 gwc propane storage tanks with high pressure pump to maintain a constant 200 psi propane pressure. Vaporizer supplied by customer. Installed 1-1/2” heat traced insulated pipe with 6” – 20 gauge spiral lockseam aluminum jacket to experimental turbine.
PROJECT NOTES: High pressure (200 psi) propane vapor application. The critical design feature of this system was to keep propane vapor at 200 psig and not allow it to go back to a liquid. At standard conditions 14.7 psi and 60° F, propane (liquid) will naturally turn to vapor, but at 200 psi and with propane having a dewpoint of approximately 112°F, keeping propane a vapor is a major challenge. ECUC was able to do this by installing 1-1/2” heat traced piping with a 6” – 20 gauge spiral lockseam aluminum jacketed pipe with heat trace channel. Pressure was obtained using a Conken high pressure low volume pump through a vaporizer.
